Some of the stories are a little so-so, some are as gorgeous as ever and anyway as Brust's introduction says: sometimes you learn more from stories that are a little off.

and in the back of the book, there's a collection of “short stories” which are in fact the beginning chapters for an unpublished book of Amber set after the published ten. Corwin, Merlin, Luke and Fakir [yes, the strangling cord.] all get POVs, a new antagonist shows up, a new sort of monster, a new dimension to shadow, a lot of minor characters reappearing, and details about the spikards of the last few books are all involved. :O It's happy and sad all at once, because the rest of the chapters will never be written, but at least I have the first few!
I'm over the last speed bump of tests before final exams, with physics & econ ringing in in the low 90s and a good handful of confidence about my performance on today's etymology and math tests. How the hell I found that confidence with less than an hour of sleep, I don't know.

I'm not afraid of my 200 pages of econ reading for tonight, even though I need to be ready to propose a thesis tomorrow morning.

For comparison's sake, here's how my hair USED to look:

Long, untamed, plain, flat... I could go on.

But then I got it cut and apparently almost gave the stylist a heart attack several times... most people regret cutting it short and she doesn't like her customers being unhappy, but I love how it came out! Heh heh heh. What, I've only been planning this for half a year?

Stylist says, "Are you sure you want it that short?"

...

YES I'M SURE :D :D :D

It's a happy&cute haircut, but that wasn't all I had planned...

Next roomie and I went into Boston/Cambridge and picked up all the supplies for stage II of the plan and picked up all this stuff:

We were pretty tiered by the time we got back though and so I just collected compliments on my "adult" and "daring" haircut for the next week. Ms. Myer ranted about it for minutes and the cluster dean liked it and even some dude in my grade who I don't think I know at all told me it was cool... but he addressed me by name, so maybe I'm supposed to know him. Huh, well my memory sucks, nothing new about that.

So the week went by, and it was a long weekend... we've got a day to waste on hairdye, right? It really took hours! First Anna and I took the hair that got cut off and tested bleach and dye on it to see how the colors would turn out.

The blue doesn't show through that well in the samples, but I decided to go ahead and try it all anyway.

Step 1 is bleaching my hair... took about 45 minutes, plus washing it out which involved a shower with my clothes on and a towel squished against my face and ha ha, we got so wet and the blue towel is all pink now.

Lo, and I am displeased with my bleached hair because it is blond and I don't want to be blond. at all. ever. But roomie, who has been slaving over my hair for hours (and watching Rome and enjoying it while waiting for bleach to set, etc.) is really hungry, so I pull on a hat and go to dinner, blond. And then as soon as I walk in...

"ZOMG, EMILY'S BLOND"

I'm assaulted by people going the RL equivalent of "OMG, OMG, lookit!" and ED and HAT STEALING NO GO AWAY, and it was probably very humorous. I even collapsed into a little pile beneath the tackboard. And then everyone calmed down and I had dinner and life went on with small interludes of WTFIB! whenever I passed a mirror.

Damn, I'm saturated.

AND THEN WE DYED IT BLUE. MUCH SQUEE.

And all was right with the world, because even when I showered and the dye ran down, only a very small part of my epidermis decided to join the other side of the spectrum and my hair is AWESOME. GLEE!

And then I posted an album to facebook and typed this up and next I will email those who have requested emails. Love to all, especially Roomie for doing so much of the work and taking photos for me, Ms. Shallow for the other part of the work, and Mom for being understanding about short blue hair. YAY!

And the icon is unusually appropriate. :D

So a Head of School Day (PA's "day out of school free" holiday, happens unpredictably on one day in winter term.) email went out... it has a typo, "Tomorrow, Thursday, January 24, 2006." The house counselors haven't gotten it. No hockey stick at dinner. Consensus of the hall is- FAKE and whoever sent out the spoofed email is EVIL and ARGH. *sigh*

I'm so doomed.

... yeah, there's a message on the answering machines- it's officially fake.

I wonder if the rumors that it was going to be tomorrow were started by the same person as whoever sent out the email? And wtf was with that poll of days at All-School? It's all just depressing. Doomed. Argh.

(Math, Physics, Etym)

I'm already behind in my homework. *facepalm*

Classes:
Economics (micro) - still awesome. Two chapters of reading behind, must catch up tonight.

Physics - still awesome, less relevant. We're doing electricity and there are some cool demos.

Etymology - Teacher is sometimes condescending, class is at a low level, still awesome. Textbook looks like a keeper. Quiz soon, must study.

Calculus - The fundamental theorem is squee. SQUEE I TELL YOU. Even if Mr. Hoenig is back (Ms. Breckenworth was awesome for the two days we had her.) and not with his new (really early) children. One homework behind.

Creative Writing: Poetry - ehhhhh, well, whatever gets me writing will force me to improve. Teacher+class rubs me a bit of the wrong way so far and the textbook has driven me to angry margin notes of the "fuck you" nature. Several times. May just have been that one chapter though. Also, this class is responsible for me being behind in my homework. *sigh*

FIT - argh, jelly legs. ONWARD! (I can't do a pushup. ;_;)

I must renew my resolution and charge ahead! Two chapters of Econ and looking at the thing online! One batch of Physics! Two Math problem sets!
Winter Schedules are out! I got Etymology and Creative Writing: Poetry, both the electives I wanted, whoo! Down with forcing out essays and slacker science students, up with memorization and writing without rules! And maybe a chance to improve my meter. My meter is terrifyingly bad.

And oh, poor roomie. She's in THEA 200 and MUSC 200 all at once. On the other hand, a double sleep-in on Monday- very sweet. And we're going to be switching off in Creative Writing (Monday and Thursday for me, Tuesday and Friday for her), because she's got Creative Writing: Fiction. Wait, that means my Friday ends at noon. Holy hell, that's going to make coming back to NYC for Charlotte's birthday a lot easier if it's on a weekend. Now what date was I saving again? Nrrrgh.

I hope the Creative Writing teacher is good, or the two of us are going to bounce complaints off each other all winter. Well, we'd get creative about them eventually, so maybe that's in the spirit of the course.

EDIT: Oh yeah- I got my grades too, and I owe Roomie $5 for keeping my average after complaining so much. Only because I got an unexpected 6 in Cosmology though. I really did only get a four in all my hard courses, plus a five in English and what, my first six! So that's what slacker courses are for! I'll do better this term. *Resolve*

I saw giant corals and tiny corals and sea glass. I identified both French and Blue Striped Grunts by their tails and even spotted a sea turtle.
