music: what sounds like a blizzard going into a black hole, no really.

Dear world,

it's 11:21. pm. my sleep schedule is PWNED. Damn you prom, you were fun, but

PWNED.

and I'm going to graduate. I talk to people online and even they talk back, sometimes they talk back, I'm not a huge coward anymore! Wahoo!

this journal will probably die after graduation. Adults get privacy and this journal is counter to that aim-thingy, BWAH.

My EYEEEEES.

I should sleep now.

:D
.
Edit: 5:45 am. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay em. I fail at sleep. the baccalaureate whatsit is going to be interesting. in-ter-est-ing. with an eye as in "my eyeeees".

June 21-July 26 Geology Field Camp
Aug 4-11 Chautauqua
Remainder of August - with Dad in Houston NY, probably driving into the city a lot for my concerts-- YAY CONCERTS WHICH I CAN GO TO, LIKE OZZFEST!
September 15 O-week for Chicago

My throat is scratchy. If I caught roomie's bug, the irony may kill both of us.

$30 for Mana From Heaven, the only Zelazny short story collection missing from my library.

NEW ZELAZNY NEW ZELAZNY NEW ZELAZNY

I've already read the whole thing. Some of the stories are a little so-so, some are as gorgeous as ever and anyway as Brust's introduction says: sometimes you learn more from stories that are a little off.

and in the back of the book, there's a collection of “short stories” which are in fact the beginning chapters for an unpublished book of Amber set after the published ten. Corwin, Merlin, Luke and Fakir [yes, the strangling cord.] all get POVs, a new antagonist shows up, a new sort of monster, a new dimension to shadow, a lot of minor characters reappearing, and details about the spikards of the last few books are all involved. :O It's happy and sad all at once, because the rest of the chapters will never be written, but at least I have the first few! ZOMG!

music: [Worst Name Ever!] - Chaos Born - Calm before the Storm

Y'know what's annoying? Combing all of Boston [IN THE RAIN NO LESS] for an arts&crafts store with grommets big enough for proper lacings & finding they all close on Sundays. Or finding out the song you just bought on iTunes is free on Last.FM. Or buying a CD by a band with the worst name EVER and finding the music is in fact as good as the reviews say and you're going to want more CDs by this band and they have the worst name EVER. Seriously. But I guess they can get away with it because they started out as black metal and black metallers aren't supposed to have a sense of humor... *has cracked up at the name like six times during 1 playthrough* ... Yeah, I could never do that scene.

Mar. 30th, 2007 | 08:07 am

I'm pretty sure I saw a downy woodpecker today- based on red dot, striped markings, and the important part: short bill. Could have been a hairy woodpecker, maybe.

I start the first page of my independent project today. MEEP!

That is all.

Edit: Or not. Ladyhead of the Math Department subbed in our class again today. I wish I could take her class instead, if she has a section of AB Calc or even of BC Calc- she's a math fangirl and I love the subject as soon as she starts talking about it. Heals all the wounds of frustration inflicted by Mr. Hoenig, just like that. Sigh.

I may go and juggle outside today. It's very nice out & it is friday & I am a senior & Chelsea is probably coming into UChicago 2011! Sweet!

Mar. 23rd, 2007 | 01:11 pm

Schedules are up. My IP seems to be approved... with a first period sleep in. 0.0! Well, I did manage to get on honor roll, so that's not really a surprise. [WTF HONOR ROLL. I did not get a 5 in physics! What're you on about?!] Math & Physics are the same as always, then I have Painting 1 with Ms. Boyajian and Contemporary American Poetry with Mr. Tortorella. They both have good ratings online... Roomie, was Ms. B your architecture teacher? What do you think of her, if so? Anyway, I'm glad to be getting my first proper academic introduction to poetry & I'm glad I won't have two creative projects bruising my schedule- no, Art class totally doesn't count as a creative class, but some of the english electives would have. :|

Preparation for my IP seems to be keeping apace, but it's all the hard stuff that I have left, so maybe not. I've got a dress for graduation & today we hunt prom dresses and acessories. I'm really excited about this... not. But today we also try to get my computer fixed! GLEE!

music: skyfire - shadow creator

So I'm supposed to be writing my 10 pages of econ right now... um.

Yeah, hi internets. I'm trying REALLY HARD to be distracted right now--- a little help? Seriously, I'm reading the flists of my flists and there's just NOTHING going on. It's like you actually want me to be doing work. ;_;

Oh, and I'm also listening to all the tiny downloads of Skyfire's music that I can get my hands on, which is about 10min worth. Sigh.

Things that need to happen in regards to bands I like a.k.a. PROCRASTINATION LIST:

  • Skyfire - to get a label and some actual distribution. I don't want to buy your album off ebay- I want to support the band!

  • Zeromancer - to release the new album already, because I'm tiered of drooling over the online teaser. And while I'm dreaming, how about another US tour?

  • Dragonland - Astronomy on iTunes, please please please.

  • Arch Enemy - to come to the NEMHF. It'd make the $40 totally worth it, just for you & Kataklysm.

  • The Kovenant - to not stray too far from S.E.T.I.'s sound or themes on the new album, because I haven't been able to find anything else like it and can I have some more please?

ok, that's all I can think of. Well, that and: "everyone I don't own yet - don't be too expensive." I've been discovering so much music I like nowadays... I want to own it all!

I should really get to writing about Singapore now.

edit: oh yeah, and my IP is approved unless I screw up my grades/absences/schedule for next term. :D :D :D 'm gonna dieeeeeee. o.o

Miracles?

Feb. 22nd, 2007 | 01:07 pm
music: The Kovenant - Industrial Twilight

I'm over the last speed bump of tests before final exams, with physics & econ ringing in in the low 90s and a good handful of confidence about my performance on today's etymology and math tests. How the hell I found that confidence with less than an hour of sleep, I don't know.

I'm not afraid of my 200 pages of econ reading for tonight, even though I need to be ready to propose a thesis tomorrow morning. I actually like the main book- I might read it just to read it. I've also got a poetry collection by Phillip Levine which I've been toting around.

I have six poems I can turn in as my English portfolio after excluding the absolutely horrible ones. (Not that some of them aren't still bad- the new villanelle in particular, but that's life.)

And to top the news off until I find out about my IP, Pandemonium got over 1000 t-shirt orders.

Huh. Looks like I'm coming out of this term alive. :P

Pandemonium, Boston's only Sci-Fi/Fantasy bookstore is going under.

Well Cora, now we have a loss in common. :/ I think there's pretty much no way he's going to hit 1000 in such a short period of time, even with the link from BoingBoing. I wish it weren't so. (I wish he hadn't moved out of Harvard Square. Costs me extra to get there every time I go into Boston now, but I go.)

Head of School Day WTF

Jan. 24th, 2007 | 08:39 pm

So a Head of School Day (PA's "day out of school free" holiday, happens unpredictably on one day in winter term.) email went out... it has a typo, "Tomorrow, Thursday, January 24, 2006." The house counselors haven't gotten it. No hockey stick at dinner. Consensus of the hall is- FAKE and whoever sent out the spoofed email is EVIL and ARGH. *sigh*

I'm so doomed.

... yeah, there's a message on the answering machines- it's officially fake.

I wonder if the rumors that it was going to be tomorrow were started by the same person as whoever sent out the email? And wtf was with that poll of days at All-School? It's all just depressing. Doomed. Argh.

(Math, Physics, Etym)

this is emily under a bad moon

Jan. 15th, 2007 | 07:40 pm

aaargh, I can't woooork. Haven't done ANYTHING school related, except edited my poems a little. I am tiered and hateful. I wrote more than 700 words this weekend and none of it is school and DOOM. I need to do etymology flash cards, econ reading, math and physics. I need to go fold my laundry. I have an economics test on Wednesday and probably a math test too. I have a broken ipod and a useless new book, but at least it was free. MLK day comserv, book sorting, dragonflies, blah blah blah. Chris Abani came to speak for the All-School and was excellence, but then he read an exerept from one of his books and that was blah and Anna agrees. All the entries I put on my calender were erased by system restore.

I think this is a found poem and the title is "Fuckitdoom."

Fuckitdoom
Economics reading, Math.
Etymology.
Physics.
FUCKITDOOM.

So it's been a week

Jan. 9th, 2007 | 06:53 pm
music: Gamma Ray - Time to Break Free

I'm already behind in my homework. *facepalm*

Classes:
Economics (micro) - still awesome. Two chapters of reading behind, must catch up tonight.

Physics - still awesome, less relevant. We're doing electricity and there are some cool demos.

Etymology - Teacher is sometimes condescending, class is at a low level, still awesome. Textbook looks like a keeper. Quiz soon, must study.

Calculus - The fundamental theorem is squee. SQUEE I TELL YOU. Even if Mr. Hoenig is back (Ms. Breckenworth was awesome for the two days we had her.) and not with his new (really early) children. One homework behind.

Creative Writing: Poetry - ehhhhh, well, whatever gets me writing will force me to improve. Teacher+class rubs me a bit of the wrong way so far and the textbook has driven me to angry margin notes of the "fuck you" nature. Several times. May just have been that one chapter though. Also, this class is responsible for me being behind in my homework. *sigh*

FIT - argh, jelly legs. ONWARD! (I can't do a pushup. ;_;)

I must renew my resolution and charge ahead! Two chapters of Econ and looking at the thing online! One batch of Physics! Two Math problem sets! Studying for Etymology! CHAAAAARGE.

new boots, new boots, new boots.

They're red.

Also, spikes. Tasteful spikes, just a ring around the front and a line up the back.

Bright red! Leather! Spikes! Stitching!

NAILS IN THE BOTTOM. Don't know why that makes me so happy. Don't care. Happy!

Shiny metal! Shiny leather! Shiny! New boots! SHIIIIINY.

Picture of the boots below- glee! )

Dec. 29th, 2006 | 11:47 am
mood: chipper chipper
music: Supersystem - Joy

Winter Schedules are out! I got Etymology and Creative Writing: Poetry, both the electives I wanted, whoo! Down with forcing out essays and slacker science students, up with memorization and writing without rules! And maybe a chance to improve my meter. My meter is terrifyingly bad.

And oh, poor roomie. She's in THEA 200 and MUSC 200 all at once. On the other hand, a double sleep-in on Monday- very sweet. And we're going to be switching off in Creative Writing (Monday and Thursday for me, Tuesday and Friday for her), because she's got Creative Writing: Fiction. Wait, that means my Friday ends at noon. Holy hell, that's going to make coming back to NYC for Charlotte's birthday a lot easier if it's on a weekend. Now what date was I saving again? Nrrrgh.

I hope the Creative Writing teacher is good, or the two of us are going to bounce complaints off each other all winter. Well, we'd get creative about them eventually, so maybe that's in the spirit of the course.

EDIT: Oh yeah- I got my grades too, and I owe Roomie $5 for keeping my average after complaining so much. Only because I got an unexpected 6 in Cosmology though. I really did only get a four in all my hard courses, plus a five in English and what, my first six! So that's what slacker courses are for! I'll do better this term. *Resolve*

No More Betrayal-- Nothing's Gonna Hold us Down!

Dec. 28th, 2006 | 08:47 pm
music: Iron Fire - Wings of Rage

Life is still wonderful! Went to tea with Grandma and Reva and Cora, went clothes-store browsing but didn't find anything I like, still wonderful. Lots of crazy happy power metal, lots of writing and doodling. Going to buy more of the Khavaaren Romances and squee over Brust's lovable narration.

But I have no idea what I'm going to do for New Year's, because going to Mom's hangouts again doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Suggestions, anyone? If I have to treat this holiday like Halloween in Andover I will, but I'll be sad.

Dec. 22nd, 2006 | 04:55 pm

Natasha helped me fix my computer! No more hardware interrupts! Three cheers for System Restore Points- WOOT! WOOT! WOOT! And... life is still good. Maybe I'll eat sushi tonight? Go through my flists, catch up on my comments, clean up after the sleepover. Return the classic clamp, the campy camp, and the shiny... (Shamanic Princess, Soul Taker *dah dah dahhh*, and something called Otogi Zoshi which I kinda want to finish on my own.) Mmm, vacation.
